With the month-long London Festival of Architecture in full swing, the big reveal of the buildings shortlisted for the annual New London Architecture (NLA) New London Awards marks a highlight in the busy festival calendar. Supported by the Mayor of London, selected architecture, planning, and construction projects need to display a significant contribution to the city's wider social and economic well-being to make the cut.
This year's shortlist, spanning 14 categories, includes The Painted Hall by Hugh Broughton Architects, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by Populous, London Printworks by Civic Engineers Ltd and Nissen Richards Studio, Stratford Waterfront master plan by Allies and Morrison, and Revitalise Peckham Rye by Curl la Tourelle Head Architecture, among many others.
"One of the changes we have seen in recent years is a growing involvement of local communities in the design of new housing," commented NLA chairman and New London Awards judge Peter Murray. "While many such projects are still in the pipeline, this will be a key game changer in years to come."
Winners will be chosen for each of the categories as well as the Overall Winner for the best project in London, and the five special prizes: Mayor's Prize, Community Prize, Sustainability Prize, Wellbeing Prize, and People's Choice - which now accepts online votes here.
To view the complete list of projects sorted by category, visit NLA's website.
The final winners will be announced at a grand ceremony at The Guildhall on July 3. All winning as well as shortlisted projects will be part of an exhibition at the NLA Galleries at The Building Centre starting this summer.
