Since 1999, the Architectural Review has been honoring young designers for their impact on the built environment with the Emerging Architecture Awards. The awards program—which has previously designated now-household-names such as Shigeru Ban, Thomas Heatherwick, and Frida Escobedo—has released their 14-strong shortlist for the 2018 year.
The global list features a diverse range of practices, from the London-based Studio Weave, known for their charming public projects, to the nonprofit research, design and construction firm ABARI, working in Nepal to build eco-friendly structures. Come late November, they along with the other twelve emerging practices will present their work at the World Architecture Festival, to be decided on by a judging panel that includes previous winners of the awards such as Spanish architect Ángela García de Paredes, Indian architect Gurjit Singh Matharoo, and Ronald Rietveld of RAAAF.
