NASA recently announced the top five winning teams of their 3-D Printed Habitat Challenge, initially launched back in 2015. Together with the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, America Makes, the agency tasked participants with designing and building a 3-D printed habitat for deep space exploration including the agency’s journey to Mars. In the last phase of this $2.25 million competition, NASA and Bradley University of Peoria, Illinois have selected five teams to share a $100,000 prize with amounts awarded based on panel scores.
The competition is designed to advance the additive construction technology needed to create sustainable housing solutions for Earth and beyond. The winning teams successfully created digital representations of the physical and functional characteristics of a house on Mars. Take a look at their projects below:
