AIA 2018 Diversity Recognition Program honors Iowa Women in Architecture + ACE Mentor Program

The Iowa Women in Architecture and the Architecture, Construction, Engineering Mentor Program (ACE) were announced today as the 2018 honorees of the AIA's Diversity Recognition Program. Now in its tenth year, the program recognizes architects and organizations who are actively committed to making the architecture profession more diverse, inclusive, and equitable. This year's winners were selected by jurors Steven Spurlock, FAIA; Linsey Graff, Assoc. AIA; and Jonathan Penndorf, FAIA.

Based in Des Moines, the Iowa Women in Architecture is a nonprofit corporation that examines issues connected to women working in architecture and related professions. The group also educates communities, advances women in design, and serves as a resource for women at any stage of their career.

The ACE Mentor Program is a workforce development program in Rockville, Maryland. Founded in 1994, the design and construction industry created the program to inspire high school students to pursue careers in architecture, construction, and engineering. In just the last six years, two-thirds of the program's students have majored in architecture, construction, and engineering in college or enrolled in skilled trades programs.

The honorees will be recognized during the 2018 AIA Conference on Architecture in New York City this June.
