Architects design prototype pop-up shelters for refugees returning to post-Isis Mosul in 'Mosul Postwar Camp' Competition

Last year, an open international ideas contest was launched to design prototype pop-up shelters and infrastructure for refugees returning to post-Isis Mosul in Iraq. The competition, "Mosul Postwar Camp," was organized by Archstorming—a new project founded in 2017 by two young architects and a lawyer that aims to not only expose architectural ideas and get solutions to many urbanistic problems, but also to respond to social demands and try to make a better world.

The contest focused on two separate issues: the first being to provide urgent humanitarian aid to newly arrived returnees and the second part, to provide long term rebuilding solutions. This second part asked proposals to focus on the creation of a city reintegration zone—which will include family housing, schools, medical centers, a market and a civic center—where returnees can begin to build a secure future for their families following processing in the humanitarian aid area.

Winners of the competition, with first place receiving an award of €4,000, were announced last month. Check out the victorious submissions below!
