Google moves into the real world with its first Google-branded handset. It seems to be a logical extension of its ever-growing cloud software suite... but I was hoping it would offer a little more original innovation. Nexus One

My question is whether or not Google is subsidizing the cost, which is much less than other phones cost (because the carrier contract subsidizes the cost). But 500+ is still too rich for me...
I want one, just because I love Google. But I have Credo phone service (Sprint network) so it won't work for me for now. Can't afford it anyway, so maybe it's just as well!
The cost of the device is pretty standard. It's actually less than it's competitors. I was expecting them to release an unlocked version subsidized by mobile ads. Especially since Google acquired AdMob.
You can get it with a T-Mobile contract for $179... I expect the same from others (specifically Verizon) when they join on (Spring 2010 according to website).
I know what I'm getting this spring!
Nam, the sad thing about cellphones is that the price is artificially high.
You'll notice this when phones move from contract models to to pay-as-you-go models. There was a Nokia (I forget the serial number) that was a $99 dollar contract phone. You could buy the same identical phone as a pay-as-you-go phone for $23 bucks.
I'd say Google priced it that high to not piss anyone off.
Another chance for google to spy on us.
Plus, the design it tacky, a poor rip off.
Personally, I like phones that are shaped like phones. And I like times when I can't access the internet. Still, the very fact that Google realized that its logo can be displayed in one color is a major achievement.
