"For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges." and this is architectural because....?
Screw global challanges - we've helped enough and been bombed and shit on for it. More aid for Africa so they can have 5 babies apiece and then need 5 x the aid next year? More Aid to the mid east so they can create holy hell and and birth a new generation of America bashers? Time for America to get back to being America and stop sending our jobs, production and wealth overseas. Let Europe wallow in the filthy mess it's creating for itself with their "world peace" rose colored glasses.
Have you considered that for America to be America like you suggest, we need to do all of that as well, for better or worse?
yeah, back to the bombing.
it's architectural, johnszot, because the Nobel is the Pritzker of peace.
wow jack klompus, if only life were so simple.
when will people like you realize that this global shit is going on precisely because we are all complicit in it by living our lives the way we do. why do you think there are continual generations of america bashers? because we invade sovereign countries on a regular basis, bomb innocent people, deprive thousands of their means of livelihood. who do you think is sending jobs overseas? OUR corporate capitalist system that controls global flows of material and money and disallows an actual free market, and OUR consumer thirst for as much cheap stuff as possible.
it's your rose colored glasses that needs some adjustment.
Bullshit - the more we help the third world, where theres typicaly no food, water and hospitable climate, the more they reproduce like rabbits and create even bigger problems. Helping = hurting.
Heres a link to sub sarhan Africa's population from 1950 to today. 1950 is a good time to start since thats about when our agriculture advances started to proliferate and our grain surpluses started growing rapidly year over year.
link
I the population was in 1950 less than 1/4 billion and they were in dire poverty and starving all we've managed to accomplish is create an additional billion starving folks in 50 years. Next they'll need jobs to.
_BECAUSE Architects should be aware of everything that happens in their time. Architecture should reflect the specific moments of cultures, societies, economical moments, and overall context of the time/space/place where is created....
so if u dont think knowing who got the Nobel Prize its slightly relevant to the profession i dont know what u think architecture is... it does amaze me even more after reading the titles of your publications:
-"Destruction and Deconstruction"
-"New voices of Modernity"
-"Politics and Perception in the American Suburb"
-"Wasted Youth"

bzzzz. thank you for playing klampass. perhaps less talking out yer ass, and more reading? Half The Sky
Half the Sky lays out an agenda for the world's women and three major abuses: sex trafficking and forced prostitution; gender-based violence including honor killings and mass rape; maternal mortality, which needlessly claims one woman a minute. We know there are many worthy causes competing for attention in the world. We focus on this one because this kind of oppression feels transcendent – and so does the opportunity. Outsiders can truly make a difference.
So let us be clear up front: We hope to recruit you to join an incipient movement to emancipate women and fight global poverty by unlocking women's power as economic catalysts. It is a process that transforms bubbly teenage girls from brothel slaves into successful businesswomen. You can help accelerate change if you'll just open your heart and join in.
jack, obviously you don't know much about economics. or food aid: 3 of the top 4 food aid importers ain't even african.
giving food aid to africa doesn't make them have more babies and request more food aid. you're confusing hunger and poverty with how your idol Rush thinks welfare works.
the increased rate of population growth coinciding w/ increased malnutrition is a result of several things, including slow food production, inadequate purchasing power and natural/manmade catastrophies like war (which we've helped initiate, fund, etc), drought, etc.
most of these famished people aren't 'bombing and shitting on us' at all, they're just trying to get by on their $350 per year. i know you think they're all gunning for you, but i got some surprising news for ya jack: they could give a rat's ass whether you worship mohammed, sucked dick for coke or pleasured yourself to photoshopped jpegs of obama.
seriously, i think you should see a professional and get counseling. turn off the faux noise, stop watching beck and maybe spend a little time with the underprivelaged and repressed people in your community.
part of what makes america 'america' is it's ability to say we're not a poor nation - we came from humble beginnings, and we can help those who need help. we've been doing it for over 200 years. don't you clowns believe a rising tide raises all ships? no, that only applies to when you want tax cuts? aw, geez.
and that job production overseas bit? really? i hope you aren't a conservative, because their overlords love taking jobs overseas. it makes them even more money, reduces their taxes and goverment oversight of ridiculous things like... worker safety.
i suppose the 'american' thing to do is let millions more children and women die of hunger? christ, you're a clown.
