This year at our annual conference, a prominent leader in our IA community declared that there's no such thing as information architects. There's information architecture, for sure, but the people who create and shape it, he contends, should be called user experience designers. As far as I am concerned who cares what an architect calls himself. Call yourself what you like but if you're in IT in the US and call your self an information architect and are not a licensed architect your breaking US law pure and simple. More importantly to me please stop posting on architects job sites even that crap section of craigs list. Its really annoying. If anyone spots one call your local AIA chapter. See the recent article about this in Architect magazine...
i've been lurking on archinect for almost a year now and apologize in advance if any of you find the thread i started to be carpet baggery. Here's one thing that I wrote in that thread to attempt to rationalize my use of the a-word in my job title:
