Sounds familiar?
"I can't find work – despite studying hard, graduating with a first in architecture and sending out countless copies of my CV." Sounds familiar? Guardian. Also, Mimi Zeiger pens another cross section on the lost generation in her piece, 'Have You Seen Me?' for Architect Magazine where one recent graduate says, “Architecture school provides you with this huge knowledge base, but in the end, I came out with an architecture portfolio. Maybe I should develop a photography or graphic design portfolio. I would love to stay in the field, but at this point, I’m thinking about going to a temp agency. I am looking for entry-level work, but I am vying for jobs with people with five or more years of experience. It’s impossible to compete. I considered slinging café lattes at Starbucks or waiting tables, but still come up short. Since I’m in New York, all the starving artists and actors out there have a lot more experience in the service industry than I do.”

This is a great article. A subject I've been professing for probably the last two-and-a-half years.
I'm glad someone has summed it up so eloquently.
a short and sweet dylan-inspired entry, to follow on from above

i was lucky enough to get a job. now i just need one that pays enough to cover rent + loans! hi ho.
isn't it always like this??
But unfortunately the current job market just highlights the fact that it's not what you know, it's who you know.
i liked the bit where someone points out the author has entered a highly specialized field with no assurance of a position at end of education -and so cannot be too taken aback by the situation today.
i have never thought of that before but feels like a bit of honest to goodness truth-speaking. not happy about that, but it does feel like reality.
