Yep, that's a sure path to success: let people who haven't a clue make all the decisions. Not only in architecture and planning, of course: what about in government, retail, medicine, traffic management, cooking, electrical generation, and gardening? I don't know a damn thing about aviation, why don't they let ME fly the plane?

And if the groups of citizens wanted modern design... do you think Charles would move to block it?
When I worked in the UK we couldn't get anything decent built; most clients were terrified ( rightly, wrongly, or because they'd been burned before ) that they wouldn't get planning permission for any project that wasn't 'traditional' enough.
