What's up with the green water? On the one hand, this is Dubai, so it could be totally fake. On the other hand, this is Dubai, so it could be totally gross and real.
Dave Hickey said that if you spend enough time in Las Vegas you start to be very unimpressed with the desert's famous breathtakingly beautiful sunsets. The sunsets look fake, because The Strip, in the foreground, is undeniably "real".
We live in a very strange visual world, these days.
Could be an HDR where you expose for the shadows, expose for the highlight, take a correct exposure then blend them with special software (basically proper exposure, +2 fstops and -2 fstops). You can get some wild color effects and hyper realistic looking stuff. Agreed however, it's odd haha. Oh silly Dubai.
The Google image is amazing - there shadow is huge, which leads me to believe that the image is real. Hasselhoff may be right, could very well be an HDR image.
Louise Armitstead has penned a piece for the Telegraph describing Dubai's optimism (denial?) regarding the current state of the global economy, as they push ahead with continued development. What I found most interesting, however, was the introduction describing Babu Sassi, an Indian man responsible for operating the world's highest crane at the top of the Burj Dubai. Apparently, due to the time it takes to get down from the crane, Sassi is forced to remain there day and night. It is claimed that he has been up there for a year!

Matthew 7:24-25
just sayin'
that is just crazy...when you let your eyes focus on the "smaller" buildings, it becomes almost surreal...

That photo totally looks like a rendering.

extreme height being perhaps some sort of overcompensating?
