"People would come to the bookshop with their notepad, make notes of what they wanted and then go buy it somewhere else," Wilbert Hasbrouck said last week. He blamed the 10.25 percent sales tax for driving buyers to online booksellers like Amazon.com.

Is it infamous because they don't have a public restroom?
why would you want a metier bookshop to be voided? bookshops should be exempted from sales tax. there is no added tariff imposed on importing books in korea while cd's can be subject to it.
is 10.25 sales tax for downtown chicago retail?
my architectural book purchases have been cut by 50% over the last year, and my book budget has been cut to 0. maybe sales volume is down everywhere in architectural books (does anyone besider architect by arch. books anyways?)
I could never afford their prices. I guess no one else can either.
this would be a huge loss for the architecture & design community.
this is without a doubt the greatest architecture bookstore in the world. the second level space is superior. the third smaller level with the rare books is nice to have. if it falls, it falls, but it takes a piece of me with it.
