sonic youth needs to rock the hell out of the plan. does it take an outsider to express an opinion that the project is evolving in a wrong direction? now the complex looks nothing like libeskind's original concept. even after they are built, the buildings will do nothing to improve the skyline nor will be able to compete with other skyscrapers on the world stage, which have been getting built in recent years. for instance, with morphosis' and jean nouvel's towers, la defense will have improved paris skyline with much desired impacts, but with this project, i cannot imagine this revised scheme will blend with the cityscape nor the view from across the rivers. at this point, it cannot be just myself who wants to anticipate a new hybrid model replacing the entire design.
Trump's idiocies and snarkiness aside...history will show that our inability to rebuild will be just as tragic as the circumstances that took the building down.

I don't get the big deal with this just being retail space. Previously, it was to be office space. Is that somehow a more worthy cause than retail? I can see if they were replacing a library or civic space with retail, but this just doesn't seem like much of a difference. And for once, someone is proposing building what is needed rather than some hyperinflated structure that will be half-vacant for years, and we're decrying it?
considering the complexity of the parties involved, the outcome of the project will be attributed to the political culture. vacant office towers or stumps remind of piranesian ruins, or it might be in a dream of sir john soane's ghost that i see these images. nonetheless, manhattan represents a success in modern urbanism, and it would be like a postwar defeat not only of the political process but also for the larger communities of all scales involved in globalization if the project fails to reform the city. it seems to me that the historic analysis and operative instruments in the tradition of the modern compromise for the conservation of the identity of the city, and the evolution of the project seems to only represent the communicativeness of top notch players. however, if the historic aspect were to be acknowledged, should the identity as between 'permanance and change' also be a characteristic strategy? if so, this solution to reduce the square footage or rather the crisis generates no reform but only barriers of meaning. much room for imagination and discourses architectonically, even if only on a theoretical level, are desired.

After almost 10 years of forgetting, Donald Trump's plan to rebuild it as is begins to make a lot more sense than this mess.
Besides, how is it appropriate in any way to replace two fallen towers... with two stumps?
^ 2 stumps with shopping. How American.

They've ruined it forever. Dang. Trump's scheme would've been halfway up by now.
building a Trump building would've been like reliving 9/11 all over again.
