no wonder no one takes architects seriously anymore. ive seen mitchell lecture before and never really thought much of it, but seeing him talk about it on colbert made me realize how f*%king ridiculous it sounds to non-architects.
"I have a phd in computation and architecture.. innovating through thinking about scripts ... shape grammars"
Is that really how you would present / talk about your work or what you do? Say you have a Phd in architecture and youre interested in new techniques/tools of building. There are numerous things he says during the interview that makes him appear to be a pompous / better than thou
ass.
It's one thing if youre addressing a bunch of fellow archi-nerds, but on Colbert? Come on.
i thought he handled pretty well. considering you are going in front of a comedian who wants you as a 'material' to 'his' show.
on the other hand, a little bit of reality check too.
people have to understand that these projects are most successfull as propoganda, not actually resolved units...
I think terms like machine language and shape grammar are totally accessible to anyone who writes computer code, no? So maybe history majors and nurses don't know what he means but a large segment of the population would.
Very funny, very cool, uber-futuristic geekiness. I happen to be watching the original Star Trek right now - Mitchell's stuff isn't any more bizarre than anything Star Trek considered possible for our future!

so he should dumb down his speech to make it more interesting to Joe The Plumbers?

Some advice: concentrate on positives.
