The economic crash has brought a decade of lavish “icon”-building to a halt. Does this mean an architecture of “excess” will be replaced by one of “relevance?” Frances Anderton speaks with Frank Gehry and Architecture for Humanity’s Cameron Sinclair.
Cameron Sinclair's argument of excess architecture downfall is getting old. The changing climate argument is getting in the right ballpark but he has this self righteousness that is disingenuous to non-publicized architectural practice from DallmanLA, Buildingstudio in KC, nArchitects, UCADC, and etc etc that have been practicing with those socio-economic parameters he's been crying about. Also, their is a point where low impact housing shouldn't overshadow of how technologically advanced the building industry is compared to other design and engineering industries. I love Rural Studio and the winning designs of MIT's portable washing machine and Metropolis' Sustainable Design Competition's 2008 winners, but advance building technology and green design shouldn't be exclusive to one another when it comes low income housing.

Advanced building technology has yet to provide reliable solutions to system interface details and roof leaks.
