My good friends Ali and Poonam of LOC Architects are profiled in this weekend's LA Times for the recent renovation of their Los Angeles Chinatown live/work space. I was able to follow their progress converting a run-down two-bedroom apartment into a beautiful modern courtyard home. Article / Slideshow (with added bonus of photos of Noor, their new little girl)

Fantastic home, Ali, and the pictures on your own website are even better! I love the challenge of using some off-the-shelf components and some simple custom moves to make a really elegant result. It seems we architects often excel at that approach, but I've had a hard time finding clients who appreciate that route. (Mine tend to want more "known" elements, and higher end - they don't see the quirky fun in using something unexpectedly. But I have awesome clients, I can't complain.)
I love the exposed datum line of concrete(?) around the ceiling, and the courtyard of course, but my favorite is the tile bench that continues out from the shower. Bravo. Great work.
