Preservationists say they are fighting to protect Brasilia's signature skyline designed by legendary architect Oscar Niemeyer — from Oscar Niemeyer himself.
The 101-year-old architect envisions building a "Plaza of Sovereignty," including a low-lying, curved building and a soaring 1,000 foot (300 meter) obelisk, in the heart of Brazil's capital, according to plans unveiled by city officials in early January.AP
pro - the location of the proposed Plaza is sufficiently far from the National Congress to interfere with the iconic view, which seems to be the preservationists key points.
con - in a city plagued by the unsuccessful infrastructure, moslty due to the unpredicted growth by the original design, one would image the funds could be used for much better use.
