Hydrogen powered cars are on the roads and hydrogen infrastructure projects are on the drawing boards. The transition to a hydrogen-based economy awaits planners and architects to place their landmarks on the map. From h2cars.biz
Hydrogen and fuel cells already have opened new design options for the car designers and automakers: Likewise, requirements of energy efficiency and hydrogen production capabilities open new design options to city planners and architects.
To facilitate this development, Hydrogen Cars Business Magazine has entered a partnership with Danish Architecture Centre (DAC). The partnership features design of energy-optimized buildings suitable for hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Danish PLOT Architects have carried out the initial commission by DAC. PLOT has so far evaluated and conceptualized the basic building blocks necessary to house hydrogen installations and hydrogen vehicles.
The buildings are shaped in optimized angles, for maximum solar powered and every block has its own car park implemented. The largest car park features a hydrogen plant, which fuels the cars of the entire block with hydrogen made from rainwater and solar power. The cars, when parked, supply the housing and offices with electricity and heat. The oxygen from the electrolysis process is used to transform sludge from a biogas plant into high-quality soil.
Hydrogen Cars Business Magazine will feature the integration issues of hydrogen technologies and architecture in a Special Design Issue of Hydrogen Cars Business.
The Special Design Issue will be available at prominent events in connection with DAC’s contributions and exhibit during the autumn of 2004.
