Called the "G1", Google's handset is rumored to have both a touchscreen and a slide-out qwerty keyboard and will run a new open-source OS called Android. T-Mobile will offer the phone in the US this fall for an estimated $199. The official announcement will be made today in NYC. Guardian | Core77 has some more info & photos

Is it just me, or does it look really cheap? They're going to have to step up their product design (and screen graphics) if they want to compete with the iPhone. Still can't wait to get my hands on one though.
And in related news, Google Maps has just released public transportation directions for NYC. We'll see how it fares against HopStop.com.
it's not just you paul, it does look really cheap. but yeah, being a t-mobile customer, i'll probably still get one.
I was thinking exactly the same! the case (OMG, these buttons...) looks like a toy phone from the 99 cent store. I hope at least the OS is convincing.
Agreed!
It would be nice if the button/keyboard part could detach from touchscreen part.
