I'm truly confused here: how many useful applications are there, really, with the extremely brittle resin material that these kind of 3D printers require? It's not like you're printing to steel. Jewelry I can see, though only decorative costume jewelry, but an iPhone case? A watch? I don't believe it.
Donna, there are different plastics used in 3d printing, including ABS, an extremely tough plastic. The question to me is how these pieces are finished - even the best 3d printing is still 'rough' in texture compared to most other processes like injection molding.
The article also mentions wood and metal, so I'm not entirely convinced it's ONLY 3d printing going on here.
objets are printed in third world countries, like Detroit, where children who have been bred to have small hands vigorously rub their callouses over the objets in an attempt to make their captors happy, thus making them shiny smooth.
If eBay is doing it, it's gotta be lame.
