After a recent trip to China my spouse had me lug back an enormous quantity of books with the title 读书 (Dushu). My curiosity was of course spiked by a vast quantity of reading materials but in Chinese it becomes, for me quite impossible to access. Enter NLR's article by Zhang Yongle, who rekindles my interest with a concise survey of Dushu. Chinese lessons here I come again.

The NLR overview of Dushu was very enlightening for the insight it provides into the developments that have helped shaped Chinese/East Asian intellegentsia over the last 2-3 decades....
