"Fire investigators yesterday sifted through the remains of a modern mansion off Burr Road that was recently featured in The New York Times and burned to the ground Tuesday night...
The cause of the fire is still unknown, according to George Slater, the Kenoza Lake assistant fire chief.
Designed by Dutch architects, the house had tinted glass for many of its outside walls and LED-lit polycarbonate panels in the kitchen.
It was perched atop a Bethel hill with a commanding view of the surrounding area.
[The owner of the home] was in New York City at the time of the fire; a passer-by called in to report the blaze.
Crews from Kenoza Lake, Jeffersonville, Lake Huntington and White Lake battled the fire for three hours." source | UN Studio

me thinks the passer by should be questioned first! what a shame. that thing is destroyed
Holy shit....That sucks!
hope it wasn't the wiring. dunno about UN studio's detailing...
it's probably elf
ben v. was just at the aa showing it...maybe bad karma -- clearly he thought it was the best thing since sliced bread -- it looked like there was way too much plastic in it so most likely the prob.
TED, smoghat, why so much implicit blame placed on the architecture? One assumes that New York state's building inspectors and code officials wouldn't have signed off on the thing if the wiring or the 'plastic' was a problem.
this now looks like California modernism in more ways than one.
my bet the owner didn't like it and wanted an insurance pay out, especially as selling wouldn't have recouped the cost.
I guess that metamorphic fireplace wasn't a good idea.
TED I was at the lecture too. Didn't find his talk too pretentious. Bad karma, I guess. I must admit to loving the house.
Is anything left but that conc frame!? Surprized to hear it took 3 hours to stabilize the flames, doesn't seem like too big a house to handle.
It will be a very cool looking ruin.
I think as a modernist gem it might have a retained value despite the fire. Royal shame though
I just saw this. What a shame! It was a cool house!
