I think Los Angeles has already seen its "golden age" in architecture ... the time when it was both geometrically interesting, pleasing to the eye, and universally liked without controversy ... and, yes, most of these buildings would have been modernist. The current stuff has more of a "Gee, I don't know what to do, so I'll try this." Accordingly, it's "hit or miss." I hope another Renaissance will be under way, but I don't see it at this point. What a canvas!
