he's a talented designer, definitely. i find the comment disavowing politics quite appalling . even more so since he clearly doesn't shy away from talking about race, which is necessarily political. wonder if he'd say the same thing if someone wanted him to build a billion dollar prison in the US --
i think some of his buildings, especially the houses, to be beautifully designed. I attended his lecture in Detroit earlier this year, and was a bit dissapointed...it was almost as he was addlipping to the slides being shown to him, as he tried to justify his new found architectural genius...
i had the impression he is still trying to find his public persona...but again, his work is beautiful...
the new mcart here in denver is getting up quite nicely, although the construction has been changed drastically from a previous rendering of a milky white glazed skin to a black mirror glass solution. i've got some recent photos of it here
i like this quote: "As an architect, I have to be an optimist." ...i thought we were cynics...i like him, and hope he doesn't grow too quickly...
for me, he's more of a political phenomenon than an architectural one. his profile is more inspiring than his buildings...nice buildings very much of the moment that dont seem to capture the different voice that he offers
"People think that architects are literally also building, but really we produce the documentation for contractors to build. When something leaks, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the architect messed up; most of the time, it means the work was done badly."
They must not be big on CA across the pond.
