Corner’s plan identifies five main areas in Freshkills, each with distinct offerings, designed and programmed to maximize specific site opportunities and constraints. Planned features include nature preserves, animal habitats, a seed plot, walking and bike paths, picnic areas, comfort stations, event staging areas, and every other amenity you could possibly ask for in a public park. — blogs.smithsonianmag.com

fresh kills park is imo the best project of the 21st century. It combines science, architecture, and humanity all in one and at the same time it is seemless and almost invisible. It is not like nature, it is nature. Not to many projects can achieve that. It is really perfect in that respect. It is one project that actually give me hope for our future. It will be viewed as the central park of our time 100 years from now.
I whole heartedly agree that this is an amazing place that blends nature, infrastructure, history and future while also being a truly transformative project for landscape architecture. I actually just did a short write up today with some photos about my own personal visit during the annual Sneak Peek which happened a few weeks ago. You can read it at the link below but my biggest concern is the lack of current access that exists to the site (not even a park yet) to help drive public momentum and funding for it to really get rolling for the necessary work and ultimate openings can begin to occur.
