I’m no architecture critic, but the word “iconic” keeps popping to mind. In an industry full of soulless suburban campuses, give Jeff Bezos & Co. credit for building this in the city, at least. — geekwire.com
The geeks speak on two new planned tech campuses. Which one do you prefer?

As impressive as Apple's campus is, I must confessed being more attracted to Amazon's since in an urban environment, as opposed to Apple's. While Foster's design is more memorable than NBBJ's, I'd probably prefer working in Amazon's building myself.
the energy that surrounds South Lake Union (the home of Amazon's current campus) is amazing. Once the new towers are done, Downtown Seattle / South Lake Union is going to be one of the most happin' places in town
If you want to go a little further on headquarters we did a small recap of 100 years of office design and tried to imagine their future. Apple's is for us way more than just a headquarter. What do you think? http://www.bloggymary.fr/en/headquarters-syndrom/
Is it ok to say neither one are cool? Tha amazon one looks like something straight out of Mad Men's Madison Avenue and Apples is a space ship sized sculpture.
amazon's will effect more that just the amazon employees..apples will be a fortress in the woods
yeah... that nbbj building is typical... it will be bland and characterless just like 99.9% of buildings done in the states. Absolutely no risks taken what so ever... any character we read from it is a consequence of the cute little 'sketched' renderings... wake me when its built so i can fall back asleep...
Why is virtually every american project clunky inelegant crap?? Seriously, has anyone else noticed the fact that while looking at archdaily, dezeen or designboom, american projects are immedietly recognizable for their ugliness and banality? what is the problem??!! Even our "good" projects look clunky and cheap...
i do think that there's more going on in the amazon project than this article shows. check this one: http://www.geekwire.com/2012/images-amazons-colorful-towers-put-stamp-seattles-skyline/#prettyPhoto
that said, if it still doesn't excite, at least it's the smarter project and much more generous to the urban environment. the commentors on the geekwire article mostly seem to get this. for walkability, engagement, and land use, amazon hands down.
The ONLY merit of the Amazon office is the location itself. One could erect a pile of shit there like any other 80s tower, and it would have the same effect on the urban level.
