incredible find, Javier. Thanks for the story.
Perhaps this lines up with the elusive comments from Eric Schmidt Monday:
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Google Inc. (GOOG) Chief Executive Eric Schmidt said Monday that Google and Apple Inc. (AAPL) are working together on "many more" new projects, which he did not identify. Schmidt made his comments at a technology conference in San Francisco.
unrelated but... i picked up a magazine that my wife had in which there was a 'TIP!' on following a mapquest/other directions map while in the car. it suggested taking a picture of a map with your digital camera and using the screen of the digital camera to zoom in and out of the map as you follow it.
do people with computers at home not have printers? does this sound dangerous: staring at your 2" camera screen and fumbling with the zoom button while trying to figure out where you're going? clever and wrong-headed at the same time!
I use my phone for in-car driving directions all the time. My phone has both GPS and Google Maps (I tend to use Google Maps more often), but I never use the graphical mapping feature unless I'm near my destination and need to check the cross streets. I use the turn-by-turn text directions instead, and I usually just refer back to them when I'm stopped. I think it works great. Google's mobile map software is especially good... much better and safer than referring to print-outs while driving, in my opinion.
Lately I can't imagine driving out of my neighborhood without my Nuvi GPS map. If I lose it/it gets stolen it will break my heart - it was a gift I can't afford to replace.
For someone as prone to stress about "worst case" as I can be, the fact that the GPS shows all the roads you DON'T need to take so you can constantly confirm that you are going the correct route is priceless.
That said, I love Google.
