Boston’s Office dA designs a house for a rare book dealer and a chef. The main feature? A spiral stair encasing a three story tower of books. From the NYT
"...she plunged into the design of the house, spending many hours a week at Office dA. “I’d show up in the morning, and leave at 7 at night,” "
...sounds like an architect's nightmare couched in customer service.
Indeed, it's surprising NYT would talk so much about the bookshelf and not show pictures of it.
i thought the same thing at first, until going to the office da site.
actually the one shot of the bookcase in the nyt is about all you ever get in a pic anyway. the 'spiralling' description, while accurate, triggers a mental picture of a corkscrewing stair while this stair is a SQUARE spiral and you really only ever see one or two faces of bookcase at a time. so it works more narratively/sequentially then immediately.

it would be nice if the nyt could include a photo of the staircase in the article, rather than the kitchen and living room shots.
maybe it doesn't photograph well? Actually though there are some nice pictures of it on the Office dA's website
