Speaking from a slightly more inside perspective, I have to say that part of the reason that Leo Marmol was focusing on efficiency and cost so much in the interview is that the long-term plan for the company is to make these houses affordable to a much wider segment of the population. The cost for a modular design from this or any similar company is hovering uncomfortably close to $300/sf right now--there is a substantial gap that needs to be closed before these houses can become a viable option for more than a fraction of the populace. And, given that they are demonstrably better for the environment (and better constructed than the average stick-built), I think that's a pretty good goal.
