Whitney's $200 million-plus Piano addition, is too high for a building that will only add another 30,000 square feet of gallery space. So says, Adam Weinberg, the museum's director, who contends that stacking the galleries on seven floors, with relatively small floor plates, is too confining. Meanwhile, Maxwell Anderson, the Whitney's previous director, said the museum spent nearly $6 million in architectural, engineering and legal fees to develop the Koolhaas design.
