German architect and engineer Frei Otto has won the 18th annual Praemium Imperiale prize for architecture. The prize will be presented in Tokyo next month on October 18th. ArchMag

Wow, I've never heard of Kusama Yayoi, but she looks a lot like Yayoi Kusama.
The other reason this is risible is that they're all so out-of-date. Maybe it takes time to assess the value of artists -- in which case, why not make the awards posthumous (the opposite of the Nobel convention), awarded every year to people who die in the previous year? There's something wrong with giving awards to established figures who haven't done anything interesting recently. Festschrifts and tributes, fine. but awards?
Althought I guess Frei is still keeping the vibe alive by rocking the art deco Avant Garde font in all his publications.
