hey david, zoe et al; congratulations. i find that stuff very beautiful on corean. i can't really think too much what to do with the cnc (?) technology you guys are making beautiful frames out of, which makes it all the more interesting for me.
i think/wish you'll go far with your work. but i am curious if there is going to be more definitive information/text about you guys' idea of where you are going with this?
btw, i didn't mean cnc in general. i meant commonwealth's use of it.
i been inside of this place few times when i was trying to make longest spinning top...
Orhan. My apologies for the lack of information on the website. We are currently working on having a top of the line website with plenty of information. But basically we just feel quite comfortable working at this smaller scale that allows us to on higher tolerances than the ones possible in architecture. (Calipers, and calibrators have brought a totally new level of accuracy to our discourse ie: .0001 of an inch for example).
Our idea is to keep working with the best product and graphic designers in a collaborative manner, which in return allows us to learn from a fresh group of people other than our colleagues in the architecture scene.
So far we have been able to establish a relationship with DuPont. Through our explorations we allow Corian to expand their possible uses beyond kitchen counter tops and so far they are really happy with the results. In exchange we get to use and research with materials that might not be yet available in the market.
CNC: We just love the accuracy that our machine allows us to work with, since it is an industrial size machine with a strong, fast gantry and accurate bed movement, we can fully rely on it for in house project development.
Some of the projects we are working on:
Full skateboard series with Michael Place, an exhibition in Brussels this summer and a Fall show at Commonwealth with Joshua Davis.
We will have more info soon on our site.
*Thanks to Paul and the archinect crew for showing our work*
