The NYTimes reports on NYC's plans for a field of underwater electricity-generating turbines in the channel between Roosevelt Island and Queens, estimated to provide 5 to 10 megawatts of power and potentially save the city the equivalent of about 65,000 barrels of oil each year. The project is being developed by Verdant Power, a Virginia-based company.
