as we talked about it last week,
glen called me yesterday that he'll stop by my office today when he uninstalls his show, down at sci arc.
he showed up around 11:00 this morning. we talked mainly about architecture. after he mentioned his friend michael sorkin and acquaintance damian hirst in couple of short cuts, i told him sorkin was in the jury recently for a couple of istanbul projects & that zaha hadid won one of them, zaha 's name brought out the subject of 'hong kong peak competition' that glen also has participated but didn't win anything. i said his and zaha's projects were similar for me since both of them were like serpents following the ridge. i was very far off because what i remembered was a totally different project/s. he talked about sydney pollack and how he ran into him during the film festival in savannah, georgia three years ago and how his daughter's film got an award and how sydney felt uncomfortable when he approached him and talked about architecture and frank gehry who was in lucia smalls' film already... he asked me if i've seen my architect movie. "nope". small world, everyone is connected so far, which is making the conversation going super fast with a lot of coverage.
nicaragua context was discussed at length. we went to eat some cuban food at versailles on venice blvd; me roast pork, he roast chicken. we came back to my office and talked another hour about why we are not making money, hollywood angles and 80 page scripts. we kept jumping from branch to branch in speed talking with most of the places and personas already known to us. there were quiet moments too. neither one of us answered the phone calls which we both recieved during our talk.
he gave me a copy of 'my father the genius' with some new footage covering some nicaragua work.
of course if his man in managua herty lewites (and here), wins the election in coming november, yours truly will be invited to see the projects in person and perhaps discuss further directions in nicaraguan condition with herty himself. who knows. i told him to build the green machine in nic. but glen thinks thats not the right project. i insist but he starts to lose interest. i do too when the image of werner herzog's fitzcarraldo flashes in my mind with rusted space frames because his guy loses the political grip and some other young ortega protege hires someone else.
*since the glen small interview, there has been some activity;
- a second year student from cal poly san luis obispo called glen and asked him if he would teach there. glen asked him who he should talk to, and never heard anything since.
- Hsin-Ming Fung of sci arc said she would bring it up (glen getting a teaching job) in committee meeting.
- aia didn't asked anything from him to do anything with their - over 2 million scheduled events- upcoming convention in los angeles.
- a speaking/teaching engagement was postponed in san francisco.
- A+D Museum turned him onto an agent whom glen left a couple of messeges through his secretary but did'nt get a call back yet.
