More on the Cornerstone...
The NYTimes has an article on the cornerstone's typography by Lower Manhattan redevelopment beat reporter David Dunlap. The cornerstone was designed by (who else?) SOM with Pentagram in typeface Gotham.

There is interesting commentary on the choice of typefaces for memorials at Design Observer (is that Gotham that you use for your title, DO?). The item addresses not only the cornerstone but the Fred Schwarz choice of Times New Roman for the "Empty Sky" Memorial in New Jersey (Schwarz went with the "ubiquitous" Microsoft licensee Monotype over Linotype TNR). One commentator points out: "I find it difficult to believe that the "choice" of Times New Roman for the New Jersey memorial is a choice at all, but rather a default decision by someone who didn't have the knowledge to consider the matter properly--or actually, at all."
