(MoAD) was built to explore and illustrate a single theme: that we all descend from the men and women who migrated out of the Rift Valley. We are all, the curators want us to acknowledge, part of the African diaspora. It is a humbling thought and MoAD is a noble enterprise. Yet a noble idea - no matter how illuminating or true - is hardly sufficient to make a good museum. Ultimately, this tribute to African culture fails to inspire. It feels like a project designed by a committee of well-meaning, politically correct citizens. It brims with good intentions but lacks true life. FT
