Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta, disciple of Luis Barragan, dies at 80
Legorreta continued the tradition of architect Luis Barragan, who died in 1988. Like Barragan, Legorreta used bright colors, massive solid walls, courtyards and geometric cutout windows to interact with Mexico’s abundant sunlight.

This Sunday all the architects in Los Angeles should gather at Pershing Square.
He is the reason i began studying architecture. I knew from the first time I laid my eyes on his book Legorreta + Legorreta; New Buildings & Projects: 1997-2003 that I wanted to design space and architecture for the rest of my life. My deepest condolences to Victor his son what a lucky guy to be able to learn from him everyday. RIP R.L.
He was a huge influence on me and my attitude towards light. So sad.
I'm an architect from Mexico, I was a student from 88-94, in those years Legorreta was the who's who in Architecture in Mexico, he was very influential to my generation, although one of the things that he was constantly burdened with during interviews, was the fact, that he copied a lot from the Architecture of Luis Barragan, who by the way, has been up till today the only Mexican Pritzker Price Laureate, only until recently Legorreta accepted the fact that he was very much influenced by him, he even stated that he copied from him and from others, but we have to understand that he was trying to defend his identity as a disciple becoming a successor, and he did successfully...
He will be missed.
