Starbucks Coffee and the Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary have just announced a Coffeehouse Challenge, designed to stimulate thinking in urban design and community improvement. Rooftop gardens? More benches? Murals? Better pedestrian crossings? Fewer potholes? Good ideas will win $3000 from Starbucks, plus media coverage. For now, however, it's only in Philadelphia, south Jersey (including Princeton), and central PA... More info: BF300 and BLDGBLOG.

I think I'll challenge Starbucks to open a coffee house right near the origin point of Philadelphia's neighborhood of Olney. Hey, if a virtual museum of architecture (especially one that continually holds Benjamin Franklin in such high regard) can afford to be there, then Starbucks can certainly afford it too.
I wonder if Piranesi ever drank coffee, or Franklin for that matter.
