congrats Stewart
Thanks John.
When you see work like Evan Douglis’s making “the list†it makes you wonder if the self congratulating posee will ever move onto fresher work. Evan Douglis is been around for quite a while and I don't think that his projects and thesis are of any kind of "vanguard" approach (most of those projects have been around for quite a while). Good studio critic, but I don't see much else in this work at this point in time. Using sentences like; "To create the lightweight wall tiles, he deployed digital technologies of design and mass production" = he used a CNC router to mill the surface tiles. It all sounds very circa '98. Lot's of us are using this technology everyday (even own it in our own studios) and don't believe that there’s a need to glamorize the process when "vanguard" architects are still dependant on students expertise to accomplish basic tiling and surface problems. There’s more work out there guys!
cool. nice linkage recovery Javier
francisco,
Dependent on student expertise? take a look at the zaha video. She is doing it all.
FDavid, You are crazy. EDouglis's work is getting pretty good! It's true, the Architectural Record write up sounds ridiculous- with its military terminology- deploy? But Evan Douglis's work is getting pretty damn good...Those are hardly basic surface problems.
Too bad he doesn't credit all the free student help that I'm sure he gets, but check those tiles! Really 3d and beautifully finished. He deserves big credit for that.
Ladies please!! Just trying to stir some comments that's all. Just to clarify, during my Columbia years I always placed him on my top studio pics but to no avail. I was never able to join his studio. I love his work.
When I was talking about "theres more work out there", I was refering to his other built project like the Jean Prouve installation which has some incredible tiling techniques.
