It turns out the tower will be even taller, and we have Mother Nature to thank for that. — New York Observer
Thanks to some lightning rods, 1 World Trade Center will be free from some of the silly symbolic weight given to it by Danny Libeskind. Though it could well wind up at 1,787 feet, an even better year. (Can you history buffs remember why?)

Liebskind's design was fantastic. This design is not.
I like this design, and I'm glad they went with this instead of exactly what Libeskind had proposed. The Chamfered edges, the square profiles the large antenna all recall the original WTC buildings. Where as the plate glass windows, concrete core, widened staircases and removal of the parking garage to Liberty Street are all improvements over the original WTC. Overall, I'd say, it's not ideal, and its not what people were hoping for, but neither was the first WTC, and I'm sure that in time, this building will be regarded as an important part of the skyline and people will be unable to imagine that it wasn't always there.
1787 u.s. constitution was adopted.
I don't see the value of designing the new tower to "recall" the design ill-fated twin towers. Move ON! Get over it. Architecture's purpose is innovation, and these moves to "recall" the old tower is going to SPOIL what it could be (besides being highly unattractive) and are inappropriate there is just no reason to go backwards. Why design the model T when you can design the Chevy Volt?? One more important note - I hope that stupid project to build a Muslim Mosque near ground zero gets crushed.

And......AJ2030 proves himself to be an intolerant bigot.
The key difference is this: the SOM tower is organized around a center, the tower Libeskind sketched was not.
Mr. Scharmen. Libeskind designed a glass tower full of memorial gardens sprouting from a heavier base (his original design, not the twisty thing that Childs really designed for him). That was poetic and respectful. This is a piece of glass-granite with a candle on top.
18x32, you are 100% correct. The 1776 number was always just a ploy to catch the ears of the public. If it was 50 feet taller or shorter and noone said anything, would anyone be the wiser?
