Despite the Pritzker Prize, Thom Mayne/Morphosis' Alaska State Capitol has evaporated under the weight of nebulous budget prospects and harsh editorial critiques. Conservative blowhards everywhere are delighted. Previously
from my previous post of 17 feb -- this comp was speculative at best -- read the fine print when you sign up to spend big bucks on a comp!!:
an interesting news item on the competition web site...begging the question if this comp will every see a project built? will the whole process just be thrown out?

"What makes this competition unique is that no money has been allocated to build a new capitol. The project was initiated by Juneau Mayor Bruce Botelho but has not gained approval from state lawmakers. In fact, some of those lawmakers are still arguing to move the capital out of Juneau.
In other words, the project is still in its infant stages. It will be up to the city, the designers and pro-Juneau lawmakers to sell the eventual design to the rest of the state."
