Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) is behind a newly announced seaside neighborhood in Qatar called The Grove. A passive design strategy will inform the development, which is styled as a waterfront promenade and calls for 293 total units of one- to four-bedroom apartments peering out into Qetaifan Bay. The plan is for it to be powered by on-site renewables, leveraging a micro-irrigation system with rainwater harvesting, geothermal heat pumps, a network of photovoltaic 'trees', and a modular, semi-glazed facade system to meet targets set by the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS).
