Get Lectured offers a rundown of different events and public programs taking place at schools of architecture each semester. Today, our ongoing series continues with a look at what’s in store at the Florida Atlantic University School of Architecture in 2023–24.
The poster, designed by the school's Director, Joseph Choma, literally stands out with its unique folded creases, which turn an otherwise flat medium into a three-dimensional sculptural object. "Unlike typical two-dimensional posters, each poster is folded along curved creases to produce shadows based on the specific lighting condition," Choma told Archinect.
The Fall’s events begin September 26 with an appearance from UPenn lecturer Barry Walk. He is followed on October 11 by Florida International University’s Elisa Silva. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Ted Krueger will visit campus on October 24 for the special interdisciplinary event ‘The Mission to Mars: An Out of This World Proposition.’ The semester concludes on November 14 with a lecture from Brandon Pace of Sanders Pace Architecture.
Events pick back up in the Spring semester, beginning with a lecture from California State University Long Beach Assistant Professor Behnaz Farahi on January 17. Authors Daniel Cardoso Llach and Theodora Vardouli will visit campus on February 8 to discuss their new book Designing the Computational Image as well as the history and future of the the subject. Wesam Al Asali from IE University will conclude his short studio on tile vaulting with a lecture and exhibition on February 29. The lecture series concludes with Ohio State University Assistant Professors Ashley Bigham and Erik Herrmann’s discussion of their practice Outpost Office on March 11.
Each lecture begins at 3 PM and can be found on YouTube.
