Citing the climate crisis, the Los Angeles City Council voted Friday to ban most gas appliances in new construction, a policy that’s expected to result in new homes and businesses coming equipped with electric stoves, clothes dryers, water heaters and furnaces.
The nation’s second-largest city was late to the game, said Councilmember Nithya Raman, the policy’s lead author — but no longer.

Raman’s motion echoes that of many other cities in the state as well as a recent proposal to phase out non-electric car sales by the year 2035. It also includes a provision that all newly-constructed buildings be emissions-free, a requirement it first adopted for all municipal properties in 2020.
Current estimates have it that 10% of all emissions can be traced to natural gas installations in California, with another 15% being attributed to the electric grid needed for those homes and businesses.

Good move but it will hurt the chefs and their kitchens the most.
no more mango soufflés for LA
I think that is changing Orhan, more and more chefs seem to prefer electric.
By & large chefs will tell you gas ranges are significantly better than electric. They provide much more even heat & get hot faster.
That's not correct anymore
There are many different types of appliances that can be used. Induction and similar appliances, convection, etc. They want to ban natural gas utilities at some points.
Now, I didn't like conventional electric but there's new stuff that is different than old school electric. To say the least, it's very easy for wiring up electricity for electric powered cookware.
Honestly, moving to the US was the first time I had ever encountered a gas oven/stove ... i much prefer the electric versions, specifically for the lack of off-gasing that is inherent with the gas versions. Good riddance.
I’ll hook my shit up to a propane tank. They can pry it from my cold dead hands. Electric stoves suck
Don't forget those all-important... well, you know.
