Burning Man has selected its 2020 Temple. It's called Empyrean and was developed by Colorado-based builder, architect, and sculptor Laurence "Renzo" Verbeck and Sylvia Adrienne Lisse, a veteran in large-scale and interactive art projects. The title of the temple comes from medieval cosmology. According to the Burning Man Journal, "'Empyrean" represents the highest celestial point, the apex where humanity can touch the cosmic dimensions. This apex was believed to be the birthplace of fire.

The temple's geometry manifests as an eight-pointed star. It stands 70 feet high and 200 feet in diameter. The structure provides multiple points of entry, promoting fluid circulation during the festival. Wooden panels encase each spoke of the star, changing in appearance through dynamic patterns and shapes. As sunlight enters the space, shifting throughout the course of a day, the transforming aura within this desert sanctuary is sure to provide a memorable experience for festival goers laters this year.
