Known for their innovative designs and mesmerizing buildings, Snøhetta has created custom-made cutlery for restaurant Barr in Copenhagen. Collaborating with design brand Table Noir, Snøhetta designed the pieces based on the holistic design experience that compliments the restaurant. Having already designed restaurant Barr's interiors as well as creating the visual identity for the Noma Restaurant Group, Snøhetta's vision was to highlight the restaurant's conceptual expression.
Located in North Atlantic House, Barr focuses on food and drink that are traditional to the region along the North Sea. Its name, meaning "barley" in old Norse, reflects executive chef Thorsten Schmidt's passion for regional food and drink through its history and culture.
Emphasizing on its tactile feel and physical experience while dining, "the cutlery is not merely defined by aesthetics or functionality; it actually enhances the enjoyment of the food and thus elevates the eating experience itself." explains Schmidt. "When you lift your spoon or fork, the sturdy weight of the cutlery gives you a stronger sensory experience in relation to the food."
Available in two versions: a brushed matte finish or a stonewashed finish, which is used at Barr, the cutlery exudes a timeless look. Designed to easily stack on top of each other and lie steady when placed on the table, the smooth ergonomic look and feel of each piece makes eating any meal at this restaurant entrancing.
