A wide array of projects big and small are now moving forward alongside all 51 miles of the Los Angeles River, and some of the most comprehensive planning is taking place along the river’s southern portion, from Vernon to Long Beach. — la.curbed.com
As part of the ongoing Los Angeles River Revitalization Plan, Perkins + Will have recently released renderings of what their contribution could look like. The overall Los Angeles River plan includes proposals varying in size and location. The largest proposals include revitalizing expansive sections along the river to create public spaces with trails, bridges, bike and walking paths, landscaping, and seating areas.

Looks a little un-shaded under the hot LA sun. And that concrete will radiate nicely. Looks like a make work project to me that will eventually become a barren wasteland when no one has any reason to go there.
This is SO bad. Perkins + Will could use some better talent and produce renderings that dont look they were done in the early 90s. Yuck.
Renderings and sun aside, it's not that much of a transformation. The walls have been removed and planted and they's added ramps to make the bottom more accessible. Shame is that it's still a concrete trough. There's no imagination presented with respect to the fact that it's also an urban ecology.
Plenty of shade inside.
the la "river" (air quotes) discussion is played out... can we please just accept it for the dead void that it is and always will be and move on....
The LA River appeared in some scenes of "Them!" in the 50s. No, that is not a new building by Gehry in the distance.
Them! Classic. I was looking for a good picture of the river from that film but couldn't find one. Terminator 2 used small viaducts as a set, not the wider spillway.
In any event it's a wonderful historical cultural resource. Is the "beautification" the first step of adjacent luxury redevelopment (like the High Line)?
