NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre offered schools his organization’s “free” support and guidance to protect themselves, saying that communities “must come together to implement the very best strategy to harden their schools.” President Donald Trump echoed the sentiment Thursday saying, “We have to harden our sites” to protect schools from gun violence [...] it’s worth revisiting exactly what the NRA means when it calls for measures to “harden” a school. — motherjones.com
Here are a few architectural elements and design features the NRA recommends from its 2013 task force report for "hardening" schools.

Between turning schools into fortresses and proposing to teachers that they should carry deadly weapons as they attempt to build trusting relationships with students, these folks may have finally figured out how to kill public schools!
When DeVos had that listening session last week, that's when I cynically knew; that's their goal.
Just close the fucking schools already. The education isn't worth a shit.
but all the guns are in the homes... would that not automatically raise the school shooting rate?
'merica!
I hope our public schools give the NRA the finger by designing beautiful, light, bright, and airy schools with plenty of trees to climb - with locked exterior doors and single points of public entry.
(I do however support no parking lots and of course, door stops!)
word.
Two bits of information to throw into the mix:
1.) As it appears, no architects were consulted for the "NSS" report.
2.) Stoneman Douglas HS (the site of the latest tragic school shooting) may very well have many of the security features the report touts; however, these were evidently circumvented by the shooter pulling the fire alarm.
I doubt they contacted any serious educators either. It is also unlikely such deadly literal people see the irony in what they're doing in the name of protecting a supposed basic freedom, proposing to turn our schools into prisons and helping convert open spaces into shooting zones.
Think "field of fire".
When you do consult an architect you get a moat! Boiling oil dispenser an optional $100 million. (London Embassy being constructed)
Moats don't work on drones. It's coming, only a matter of time.
