To describe John Cary simply as an author would be a disservice. John is a unique individual in the world of architecture. For 20 years, since he was a student, he has been on a non-stop mission to make the world a more just place with the power of good architecture and design. On this week's show Ken and I talk to John about his career arc, thus far, from fighting for the rights of interns and architects as the Vice President of the AIAS, to his new book Design for Good: A New Era of Architecture for Everyone, published by Island Press.

Listen to "Everyone Deserves Dignified Design":
I'm very sad that I didn't get to participate in this interview but! what a thrill to get to listen to it with fresh ears, just like most of our listeners do every week!
I especially love the notion that the labor of architects, young architects especially, is granted more dignity in itself when we work on projects that focus on dignity for others. I've done work in my past career - thankfully only a little - in which the main goal was to make a profit. It's soul-sucking labor, indeed. Making the world more habitable for both body and soul is what architects are tasked with.
