Meow Wolf is a unique collaboration of more than 100 artists and designers. They use architecture, painting, sculpture, video and audio engineering to create immersive multi-sensorial environments. The works of art they create can be walked in, climbed on and played with.
Truly multidisciplinary, Meow Wolf mixes architecture, art and entertainment to create fantastical environments.
In 2016, they opened their first permanent exhibition, called “The House of Eternal Return” in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Meow Wolf transformed a former bowling alley in the industrial area of Santa Fe, into a 20,000 square foot fantastical immersive environment. The exhibition is composed of dozens of rooms and secret passages for kids and adults.
Meow Wolf also runs a non-profit arts education initiative, called Chimera, offering art classes and workshops led by different artists of the collective. Examples of classes include skateboard construction, electronics, and landscape model making.
During the weekend of September 22 to 24, as part of the Life is Beautiful festival, Artists from Meow Wolf collaborated with artists from Las Vegas to create a temporary set of installations in Las Vegas’ abandoned Art Motel. For the duration of the festival, the central courtyard and 21 rooms were transformed.
Archinect spoke with project manager Jessica Vredenburg, who described how a team, composed of fabricators, tech and electrical engineers and light designers, came together to create a wild wonderland in downtown Las Vegas. She says: “I hope that people will be able to take the time to explore and get lost in this magical world we created, immerse themselves in”
Meow Wolf merges and transforms artistic, spatial and architectural “practices”. Feel inspired? Meow Wolf currently hiring!
